The Secretary-General of a faction of the Igbo apex socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechuwu Isiguzoro has said, in a statement yesterday, that they will unveil their preferred candidate after consultative meeting with the seven Igbo-speaking governors at the end of January.

He said, “Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide has the consent of the apex decision-making organ, Imeobi Ohanaeze to kick start the procedures that will oversee the official unveiling of the prudential candidate Ndigbo will vote for in the 2023 presidential elections by the end of January 2023 in Umiaha, Abia State after series of consultative meeting with critical Igbo stakeholders especially governors from seven Igbo-speaking sates.

“We have arrived on a consensus to commence the process for the official candidate for Ndigbo in the 2023 elections, being mindful of the events that occurred during the 2015 elections and the consequence that followed up which brought up economic strangulation for Igbo traders, southeast political wilderness for eight years, the marginalization of the southeast in all ramifications that led to the rise of the Biafra consciousness and violent agitations in the southeast.

“Ndigbo has put together their indispensable thinking caps and skills to X=ray which of the presidential candidates has what it takes to give the igbo the desired expectations and protection that will guarantee their security across the country and demilitarize the southeast. The Ohanaeze Ndigbo constitution says that it’s only the Imeobi, as the apex decision-making organ, that has the power to make decisions for the entire Igbo nation across the seven Igbo speaking sates which will be rectified by a well-constituted General Assembly of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Statutory Members of Imeobi are Igbo governors and former governors, Igbo federal ministers and former ministers, captain of industry of Igbo origin, etc. Ohanaerze Ndigbo will host Imeobi by the end of January 2023 and there will be the General Assembly meeting to ractify the decision of the Imeobi.”
