Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has denied working against the candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election.

According to Daily Trust, Wike stated this during a media chat with selected journalists in the state capital, Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

He claimed that he never instructed Rivers people to vote for a candidate, instead they should vote for the unity of the country.

In his words, “I never told Rivers state people to vote for a candidate, I told them to vote for the unity of Nigeria.”

He narrated, “in 2019, ask Peter Obi, I was part of the team that chose Peter Obi to be the vice-presidential candidate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar. When we met at Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s house, he said these are the names and we chose Peter Obi.

He stressed that he was fought by several of his colleagues for choosing Obi.

He added that he never worked against Obi’s effort and had never told anyone during the campaigns not to support Obi’s ambition.
