Senators serving under the All Progressives Congress on Tuesday met with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), in Abuja amid massive defections rocking the ruling party.
The 22 Senators who had vowed to defect from the APC over the outcome of the primaries in their states were said to have made new commitments to the party after their meeting with the President.
One of the Senators, Orji Uzor Kalu, said the lawmakers felt disenfranchised by the process, but their meeting with the President convinced them otherwise.
“Earlier this afternoon, I led the 22 aggrieved Senators and members of the All Progressive Congress to President Muhammad Buhari.
“Our meeting with Mr President was successful and the issue of decamping from our party has been laid to rest,” he said in a statement.
Premium Politics had earlier reported that the defection of at least 13 Senators in less than one month had worried APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.
