In preparation for the governoship and state House of Assembly elections on Saturday, March 18 in Osun State, the Governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke has declared Friday, March 17, 2023 as a public holiday.

This was made known in a statement made available to journalists in Osogbo, the State capital on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed.

He stated that the public holiday was to assist the electorates to adequately prepare for the election and also to enable residents of the State to travel to their polling units carry out their civic responsibility at the polls on Saturday.

Adeleke further called on the residents of the State to desist any activity that may undermine the peaceful conduct of the elections.

“I call on Osun people to file out and exercise their civic rights. This election is very critical as you will be electing lawmakers who will be working with me. You must vote right,” the State governor was quoted as saying.

It was gathered, however, that the local government area offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission across the State have begun the delivery of sensitive election materials for the Saturday’s elections.
