A former member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has advised the South-East to align with the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso or waste its votes in the 2023 general elections.

He stated this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday.

Jibrin said, “The people of the South-East have the options of either reaching an agreement with NNPP to take over from Kwankwaso or waste their votes on the Labour Party.”

Premium Politics reports that NNPP and LP are currently discussing a possible coalition for the 2023 presidential election in a bid to defeat the two major political parties – the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

One talking point that has dominated the discussion is the choice of presidential candidate and running mate between Kwankwaso and the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.

But Jibrin who recently defected to the NNPP from the APC explained that the Labour Party do not have the much-needed political wit to claim the presidency come 2023.

“Labour Party does not have the structural wit to win the presidency, hence I believe that the best way for them to go is to form an alliance with the NNPP,” he noted.

He also called on Obi to join force with Kwankwaso by becoming his running mate.

“This will be the first time the South-East will be brought to the round table to discuss the issue of Presidency coming to their region since the days of Alex Ekwueme as the Vice President of Nigeria.

“And I advise that they follow the NNPP for them to get what they want,” he added.
