It will be recalled that the former minister and Mr Shija, who were both governorship aspirants of the party at the last primary election in Benue State, were suspended alongside some other members, for anti-party activities.

The state chairman of APC in Benue State, Austin Agada made it known at a stakeholders’ meeting on Wednesday in Makurdi, the state capital.

It was alleged that they worked against the party during the 2023 general elections.

He explained further that apart from taking the party to court, Mr Gemade, a former senator, who represented Benue North East Constituency, and Mr Shija, a professor, had conspired to work against the party to ensure it lost at the polls.

“Gemade lost his polling unit, ward and local government area to the opposition, and Shija colluded with PDP against the party.

“Shija is still in court and is working hand in hand with PDP to have Alia’s victory at the last general election quashed at the tribunal,” Mr Agada said.

Meanwhile, the chairman stated that the case had been handed over to the APC investigation committee to give reasons they should not be expelled from the party.

However, the party on its official Twitter handle on Thursday, stated that the ban on the party chietain, and other members, has been set aside, for further investigations.

“SUSPENSION OF GEMADE, SHIJA AND FIVE OTHERS SET ASIDE – REMAIN BONAFIDE MEMBERS OF APC

“The Party has directed that the said suspension and all related actions in the matter be, and are hereby, set aside pending further review and decision of the Party’s NWC on the matter,” the party wrote.
