Okowa and some other south-south PDP governors including Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom), Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and Douye Diri (Bayelsa), hosted the G5 governors to a meeting inside the Government House, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital on Wednesday.

In a statement signed by Bayelsa State governor Duoye Diri’s chief press secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, Okowa was quoted as saying that the governors were determined to help their party win the presidential election next year.

He said that the problems with their party’s G5 governors, led by the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, were being dealt with.

Okowa said that the PDP’s candidate for president and the other five governors will meet soon.

The Delta governor said, “We believe that we are one family. There are still issues and they are being attended to. Very soon there will be a meeting between the presidential candidate with the G5 governors.

“They are part of the family and we are not going to allow them to go. So, obviously, everything is being put in place to reconcile all differences and move together as a family.”

Also speaking, Diri called the south-south a stronghold of the PDP and said that the party would win at every level in the general election next year.

He expressed happiness over the love and unity among the regional governors and expressed confidence that the party’s differences, which he characterized as “family issues,” would be settled amicably.

The governor of Bayelsa thanked his colleagues for helping the state during the most recent floods, saying the state’s residents would always be appreciative.

He said, “I can only say on behalf of the government and the people of Bayelsa State, we appreciate the South-South governors.

“As my brother, the governor of Edo has stated, we are one. In a family, there are always disputes. Those disputes do not separate us. We will resolve them and we continue to push on as one.

“South-South is a PDP region. South-South is a place where no other party can contend except PDP. I assure you that in all the elections from the presidency to the governorship, the national assembly and the state assembly, PDP will again triumph.”

In his remarks, Governor Obaseki of Edo State said they were in the state to show support to the government and people of Bayelsa over the recent monster flood that ravaged the state.

He said that as a region, they would do everything in their power to bring the party together and enter the election as a strong and united zone. He also noted that their support for the Atiku/Okowa ticket was sacred to them.
