Atiku slams US Secretary of State Blinken over Tinubu call

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has slammed the United States of America Secretary of States, Antony Blinken over his call to the president-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Premium Politics, Blinken called Tinubu on Wednesday to reassure the future Nigerian president of the United States’ resolve to further improve ties between the two countries.

The Secretary of State said that the strong bonds of friendship and cooperation between the United States and Nigeria will only become stronger under President-elect Tinubu’s leadership, as the two countries shared many same values and goals.

However, Atiku voiced his surprise at the conversation in a tweet on Wednesday, claiming it ran counter to the US’s openly stated position on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election.

According to him, citizens may become demoralised by admitting the outcome of the 2023 presidential election.

“I am in disbelief that @SecBlinken called Tinubu, a contradiction to the publicly stated position of the US on Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election. This is inconceivable considering that America, as the bastion of democracy, is well briefed on the sham election of February 25.

“To give legitimacy to the widely acknowledged fraudulent election in Nigeria can be demoralising to citizens who have hedged their bet on democracy and the sanctity of the ballot @StateDept @POTUS @USinNigeria.”
