Atiku's Rivers campaign DG recounts assassination attempt

The Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, has narrated how he narrowly escaped being assassinated on Thursday.

The PDP Chieftain while speaking on Arise TV on Sunday, disclosed that he narrowly escaped being killed by whiskers after he was told that the venue for the rally was on fire.

“We thank God for His mercy. I never knew it was so easy to just die like that.

“Late in the night on Thursday, I got the message that the site for the PDP presidential campaign rally was on fire. I said ‘how is this possible?’, he stated.

He added, “I could see Hilux vehicles parked on the right side of the road and fire coming out of the proposed (rally) venue, and I drove past.”

He also revealed while confirming the attack, that he was at the scene of the fire incident, vehicles which were attached to the state governor, Nyesome Wike.

Accusing Wike, he said,  “As I drove past, I told the driver to turn around, by this time, the persons in those vehicles had come out; people in police uniforms, but I identified the vehicles as Hilux police vehicles attached to the Governor of Rivers State.”

He claimed that, prior to the falling out between Wike and Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, he had been out and about with the governor for the previous seven years and could readily identify those police cars.

“As we were coming back, the next thing (I noticed) was a rain of bullets and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” the DG narrated.

Sekibo described how he and his driver had to halt when they arrived at a location where people were lined up at a fueling station in order to avoid being killed.

He claimed that those Hilux vehicles rushed by them after about five minutes.

In the meantime, Wike asserted that he has never backed an assassination attempt against anyone while addressing on Saturday at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.

“Let me use this opportunity to debunk an allegation that some persons may have made that one Abiye Sekibo said that I sponsored an attempted assassination on his life.

“I want to state categorically clear; all of us from Rivers State know who is who. We know who has killed so many people in this state,” he said.
