The Council of State which was chaired by the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has given their support for the naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to Vanguard, the council however stated that the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, must make available the newly redesigned notes to all Nigerians.
At the meeting which lasted hours were former heads of state and president Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd), Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd) and Goodluck Jonathan, while former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, joined the meeting online.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting, Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, said, “The CBN was advised to make money available in quantum. The old money can also be recirculated to ease the suffering of the poorest of the poor.”
Also Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, said, that Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mahmood Yakubu, and Inspector General of Police, briefed the council on a state of preparedness for the 2023 general elections, and assured that they were fully prepared.
