The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday granted the request of former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to travel to the United Kingdom for medical attention.

Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered the Registrar of the Court to release the travelling passport of the embattled former presidential candidate of the All Progressives Party.

The order came as a result of an application argued by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Ola Olanipekun, who informed the court that his client had been experiencing health issues in recent times.

He reasoned that Okorocha, who is the senator representing Imo North, will comply with the ruling and return to the country for his trial.

While granting the request, Justice Ekwo ordered Okorocha to return the passport to the Court Registrar not later than three days of his arrival in the country.

The Judge held that he would declare Okorocha wanted if he attempted to abuse the favour granted him.

According to The PUNCH, Justice Ekwo subsequently fixed November 7 for his trial in the money laundering criminal charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

Okorocha is being tried for allegedly stealing public funds while he was Imo governor.

The EFCC had on January 24, 2022, filed a 17-count criminal charge bordering on diversion of public funds and properties to the tune of N2.9billion against Okorocha.

He was arrested by the officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on the 23rd of May after a long siege at his residence in Abuja.

During the siege, Mr Okorocha addressed some journalists inside the house and alleged that the EFCC was trying to frustrate his presidential ambition. He specifically accused the anti-graft agency of preventing him from attending the screening of APC presidential aspirants in Abuja.
