Daily Post reported that Magistrate Auwal Sani Balago gave the order on Thursday, that the suspects be remanded till Monday May 8, for the continuation of hearing in the case against them.

They were arraigned on three counts bordering on conspiracy and defamation of character.

The former Jigawa State APC chairman, Alhaji Habibu Sani Sara and one other party supporter were arrested by the police.

The Back-Story

They were detained following a complaint from Malam Habibu Ringim, a Special Adviser to the Jigawa Governor on Media Content.

He accused them of attacking Governor Badaru’s personality during a radio programme.

The chairman’s arrest followed allegations made against the outgoing governor regarding the last-minute indiscriminate award of contracts that could pose a huge burden to his successor.

They were arrested by the police and expelled from the APC after conducting a live programme at a private radio station, where they accused the State Governor, Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, of last-minute indiscriminate award of contracts that could be a huge burden to his successor.

During the radio programme, the two accused Governor Badaru of awarding shoddy contracts, including the supply of over 200 cars that were fully paid for without any visible outcome.

They also accused him of attempting to remain in power beyond May 29, by imposing cabinet members and other key appointments into the incoming government of His Excellency Malam Umaru Namadi.
