The executive Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has said one of the Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirants in Kogi state, Dino Melaye, does not have what it takes to be governor.

Wike said this on Tuesday during a media chat with four some TV broadcasting stations, aired on Channels TV.

According to Wike, he believes it takes more than drama to be elected governor of a state.

He also spoke about some conspiracy going on in the party, in a bid to herald Melaye as its governorship candidate during the forthcoming primary election.

He said, “Elections will come, like what they are going for in Kogi State, and of course you are seeing what is going on. How lists have bee changed to favor a particular candidate, whom as far as I’m concerned is dead on arrival.

“There is no way, if what they are planning happens in Kogi state, where they are giving opportunity to Dino Melaye. And this is what I tell people, ‘you have started to fail first’. When you give Dino that ticket you know he won’t win in Kogi state…why people say they will vote for a candidate like Dino Melaye?

“With due respect to all of us, the mere fact that you are from Kogi, therefore, any body? That’s not the procedure. We are talking about governance of a state, we are not talking about drama.

“For example, PDP presents such a candidate and you mean that Kogi people want development? Let us stop this idea that he is from Kogi.

“Take for example, election in Lagos and Lagos people will now go and vote for anybody because you are from Lagos? I mean that can’t be serious.

“Dino does not have what it takes! For Christ’s sake! For crying out loud! What is he going to do?”

The 2023 Kogi State governorship election will take place on 11 November to elect the Governor of Kogi State.

The incumbent APC Governor, Yahaya Bello, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. The primaries are scheduled for between 27 March and 17 April 2022.
