Six of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System’s, according to the Independent National Election Commission, have been stolen by political thugs in the states of Delta and Katsina.

The Vanguard reported that the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu revealed this while submitting a preliminary report on the Presidential and National Assembly Elections at the National Collation in Abuja on Saturday,

According to him, two BVAS machines were destroyed when thugs invaded a polling unit in Delta State’s Oshimili LGA. Nonetheless, he said they were able to replace the stolen BVAS machines, improve security, and voting resumed at that polling unit because we were determined that the election must go on.

“In a similar manner, thugs invaded one of our polling places in Safana LGA of Katsina State and stole 6 BVAS machines. But once more, we were able to recover and use the extra BVAS computers while stepping up security to allow voting to proceed there.

Three of the BVAS machines have fortunately been found by security forces, but three more are still in the hands of the thugs. So, rather than our ballots or ballot boxes, the BVAS machines were the target of attacks in these places.”
