Ekiti assembly declares seven days mourning for Speaker

Ekiti lawmaker mourns Speaker Funminiyi Afuye

To honour its departed Speaker, Mr. Funminiyi Afuye, the Ekiti State Assembly has announced seven days of mourning.

According to Daily Post, the Chair House Committee on media of the assembly, Mrs. Yemisi Ayokunle, disclosed this in a statement.

Mrs. Ayokunle said the flag in the Assembly complex would be flown at half mast during the seven days mourning period.

Describing the late Speaker as an embodiment of courage, excellence, and a highly committed man to public service, Mrs. Ayokunle maintained that Mr. Afuye will be greatly missed.

According to the statement, the Speaker died on Wednesday evening during a brief illness at the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti, at the age of 66.
