The report that the CBN governor had initiated a fresh plot against the president-elect, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been referred to by the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria as fake news.

Emefiele also refuted the claim in the report that he made a certain amount of money available to the Labour Party’s governor candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, in a statement signed by the Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Isa Abdulmumin and titled: “Re- Emefiele launches fresh plot against President-elect Tinubu.”

The statement read, “The governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is alleged to have initiated a “fresh conspiracy against President-elect,” according to an article that was published in The Nation newspaper on March 13, 2023.

“According to the aforementioned report, the governor allegedly gave a political candidate money in advance of the March 18, 2023, general election.

“We wish to inform members of the public that this story is completely false and malicious as the governor does not know and has never met or even spoken with Mr. Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through a proxy,” the governor’s office said.

“The Governor and staff at the CBN should be allowed to focus on their assigned task with a view to accomplishing the Bank’s statutory mandates, we urge anyone with different information to share such facts.

“We wish to underline that the CBN Governor does not take part in politics,”.
