By Wilson Adekumola

A Senator-elect, Abdulaziz Yari has disclosed that he was not aware of All Progressive Congress zoning of the position of the Senate President noting that he is still vying for the upper house number one spot.

The former Zamfara State Governor made this disclosure on Monday while speaking with newsmen on the sidelines of the induction ceremony of new and returning members of the National Assembly.

The All Progressives Congress, had nominated Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau as Senate President and Deputy Senate President, respectively.

Bu Yari stressed that every lawmaker who is interested in the leadership of the Senate has the right to seek the support of other members.

“I am a loyal party man, nobody has told me that any position has been zoned to anywhere as far as the 10th National Assembly is concerned.

“Position of president of the senate is first among equals among the 109 senators. Any senator-elect who wants to occupy the position must seek the support of others which I am doing,” Yari said.
