The former Ekiti governor gave his congratulatory remark via his Twitter handle on Wednesday.

In a thread of tweets, Fayose particularly appealed to the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, to concede defeat in the interest of Nigerians.

He wrote, “I congratulate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on his election as the next President of Nigeria.

“As the presidential election comes to an end, I urge other contestants, especially Atiku Abubakar to accept the outcome in the overall interest of our country. There will always be another day.”

Following the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, at the National Collation Centre in Abuja on Wednesday morning, Tinubu secured a total of 8,794,726 votes, Atiku finished in second place with 6,984,520 votes, the Labour Party’s Peter Obi came third with 6,101,533 votes and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party came fourth with 1,496,687 votes.
