Popular Nigerian activist and co-convener of #BringBackOurGirls, Aisha Yesufu, has knocked the ruling All Progressives Congress, over the appointment of the former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje as the new national chairman of the party.

Mrs Yesufu who reacted to the emergence of the former Kano governor through a post on her Twitter handle, alleged that Ganduje should be behind the bar instead of being elected as a chairman of the party.

Premium Politics reports that the National Executive Committee of the APC had on Thursday, August 3, 2023, elected Ganduje, as the National Chairman of the party, during the 12th National Executive Committee meeting of the party, held at the popular Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

Following the resignation of the immediate former National Chairman and the immediate former National Secretary of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore respectively, President Bola Tinubu and the Progressives Governors Forum in APC, had backed the candidacy of Ganduje and Basiru Ajibola, to succeed Senator Adamu and Senator Omisore, who resigned in the third week of July.

However, the choice of Ajibola and Ganduje has caused a lot of controversies within the leadership of the party, which led to the resignation of the APC’s National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Dr Saliu Lukman, who had been vocal about following a due process, in election new officers in the party.

However, Ganduje’s and Ajibola’s emergence was confirmed at the NEC meeting of the ruling party in Abuja on Thursday, despite the plea by some bigwigs in the party, that the action should be taken, according to the laid down rules of the party.

Meanwhile, the National Caucus of the APC had also recommended Ganduje while the immediate past spokesperson for the Senate, Senator Ajibola Basiru was being prepped as the acting National Secretary

In her reaction to the appointment, Yesufu opined that Ganduje ought to be incarcerated instead of leading the party.

She, however, pressed that the ruling party has shown that it encourages, nurtures es and reward criminality.

“A man that should be facing incarceration is heading the helm of affairs of APC.

“In what more ways does APC show it is a party that encourages, nurtures and rewards criminality?” Mrs Yesufu tweeted.
