Prof. Ibrahim Adamu Yakasai, the Returning Officer for the election, announced the new development in the federal constituency on Wednesday, as the commission fixed rerun in 13 polling units of the federal constituency.

INEC had earlier announced Hon. Alhassan Doguwa, the incumbent lawmaker representing the federal constituency and Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the election.

The professor said, “The reviewed election results stand as follows, APC, 39,732; NNPP, 34,798; PDP, 7,091.”

He explained there were cancellations of results in 13 polling units, added that “the total number of votes domiciled in the polling units that were cancelled had submerged the margin of votes difference cast in favour of the duo of APC and NNPP.”

He put the total number of Permanent Voter Cards, collected in the 13 polling units that were cancelled at 6,917, as against the over 4,000 votes margin between the APC and NNPP.

He stated that INEC will conduct supplementary elections in the affected units to determine the winner of the February 25 Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency poll.

The commission on Tuesday, removed Doguwa’s name from the list of Reps-elect, attributing the development to irregularities in the electoral exercise. INEC had said, Doguwa was declared winner of the election by the returning officer, under duress.

This followed the arrest of Doguwa in connection with the violence which broke out in the federal constituency during the collation of the election results, leading to the death of two persons when a secretariat of the New Nigeria Peoples Party was set ablaze allegedly on the order of the embattled lawmaker.

The lawmaker was arraigned by the police, at a Magistrate Court in Kano, which remanded him in prison.

However, he was granted bail of N500 million and was also barred from visiting the constituency for Saturday’s Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
