Some senators of the opposition parties have staged a workout on Senate President Ahmad Lawan during Wednesday’s plenary and issued a six-week ultimatum to the president to tackle the security challenges plaguing the country.

According to Channels TV, the senators threatened the impeachment of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd), if the issues of insecurity in the country are not addressed by the end of the deadline.

Plagued by insurgency, including kidnappings and killings, of innocent Nigerians and Catholic priests which have become a trend lately, insecurity in the country has peaked at an alarming rate.

The walkout of the senators, excluding those elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, came after Lawan declined the request of the Minority Leader, Senator Philip Aduda, who raised a point of order asking the Senate President to discuss the security situation in the country and the impeachment of Buhari.

Premium Politics recalls that on Monday, the Troops of the 7 Guards Brigade which provides security for the Presidential Villa and the Federal Capital Territory were attacked by gunmen suspected to be terrorists while on patrol along the Kubwa-Bwari Road in the nation’s capital.

The attack comes just a day after the terrorists who kidnapped train passengers on the Abuja-Kaduna rail on March 28 threatened to kidnap President Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State.

Monday’s attack also came less than a month after terrorists invaded the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, in the FCT and freed all Boko Haram terror suspects in custody, alongside other inmates.
