A Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, has restrained the South-West Security Network, also known as Amotekun, from participating in Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

According to court documents, the Independent National Electoral Commission was also mandated not to make use of the Amotekun Corps as part of the personnel to be deployed to provide security in the election.

The court warned Amotekun not to serve as either security personnel or volunteer in the election.

Part of the order read, “That the 1st defendant (INEC) is hereby restrained from requesting the deployment of the second defendant (Amotekun) as part of the security personnel deployable for the purpose of Osun 2022 governorship election pending the determination of the originating summons filed in the suit.”

It was learnt that the concerned parties; INEC, police and other relevant agencies, have been appropriately served the notice.

Premium Politics reports that Saturday’s election has largely been predicted to be among the incumbent and All Progressives Congress candidate who is seeking re-election, Gboyega Oyetola; Peoples Democratic Party’s Ademola Adeleke; and Labour Party’s Yusuff Lasun.

About 1,500,000 registered voters who have so far collected their Permanent Voter Cards will decide the next governor of Osun State on Saturday, even as police announced restriction on movement on the election day.
