PMNews reported that according to sources, troops from the Nigerian Army’s 82nd Division allegedly opened fire on members of the Eke Vigilante Group who were on their way to answer a distress call in their town, killing two of them, including a lady, and injuring three others.

The House of Representatives ad hoc committee, led by Sanni Abdulraheem, met with Enugu State Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai on Wednesday and assured him of their determination to find the truth and serve justice.

They are in the state on a fact-finding mission to figure out what happened and bring the offenders to justice.

The purpose of their meeting with the state’s deputy governor was clear: to grieve with the government and to explain the breadth of the job to him.

The constable explained to the delegate the government’s vested interest in the case and why the job must be done with utmost care.

He also requested that the lawmaker make some budgetary allocations for the state’s security because of its uniqueness in the region.

Following the discussion, the team went to the state assembly for a public hearing to hear all sides of the story.

“Nothing will be more satisfying than bringing the culprits to justice”, according to the speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uche Ugwu, who greeted the delegation.

They also made a brief trip at the hospital where gunshot victims were being treated, which was reassuring to the victims and their families.
