Nollywood actors, producers, and entertainers of like minds have been implored by Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, to continue their efforts to support the APC’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 election.

The charge was given by Dr. Obasa when he met with the Progressive Coalition of Entertainers led by veteran actor, Saheed Balogun, late on Thursday at the Assembly building.

In addition to thanking the group of social media influencers for helping Tinubu win the presidential election, the Speaker urged them to maintain the bond they had with the state administration.

“Our task is to involve people, enlighten them and make them see reasons why they should continue, particularly here in Lagos, to support the APC. They have always supported APC and we want them to continue.

“To us, every vote is an investment because every single vote counts,” Obasa stated while thanking the group for helping to mobilize and inform the electorate.

The speaker counseled the group to engage in debate, honest analysis, and explanations as part of its operations rather than resorting to violence on social media.

Social media, according to him, is a tool for connecting with and informing the youth about governmental processes that some may not be familiar with.

“For example, while some young people on social media decry unavailability of sufficient school chairs in primary schools, the government already projected for enough chairs for anticipated school children and is overwhelmed with the influx of more people to Lagos State, a number that can never be determined,” he said.

Speaking previously, Balogun claimed that because Tinubu transformed Lagos into the smart city it is today, a group of more than 60 celebrities came together to support and preach Tinubu to the populace.

Balogun pointed out that Tinubu laid the groundwork on which succeeding administrations seized to elevate Lagos to an enviable position among states.

The actor described a few of the group’s actions, including door-to-door canvassing and planning a town hall meeting, in which they want to shape public opinion.

He pointed out that they see a chance to connect with and engage potential voters because they are celebrities with significant social media followings.

He said Asiwaju Tinubu has made a lot of efforts to make himself eligible to be the next president and expressed the hope that more of the presidential candidate’s accomplishments would be made public.

“Asiwaju has done well and it is time to pay back. Every successive government continues to build on his foundation,” he said.

In terms of both structure and legislative operations, he also praised the Lagos State House of Assembly as being among the best in the nation.
