Osun gov election will be better than Ekiti, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has assured Nigerians that the electoral body will record a better outing in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State.

The Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi stated this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday.

Oyekanmi, while assessing the conduct of the electoral body in the just concluded governorship election in Ekiti State, noted that the body is pleased with the results recorded in the just concluded election in Ekiti.

He said, “We were able to take various lessons from previously conducted elections in the country, and this really helped us to prepare better

“Our success in Ekiti is a motivation to work harder and we can assure all Nigerians that the coming election in Osun State will be better.”

He commended the members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers for their support in the area of logistics.

He also revealed that unlike in previous elections, the body did not keep its sensitive materials with the Central Bank of Nigeria but with various designated offices under heavy security.

The commission, according to him has improved its engagement with stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies and civil society organisations, among others.

He added, “In order to deepen the political process, we had periodic meetings with these stakeholders where we explain what we are doing and we receive suggestions for improvement; and we take these suggestions on board as we continue to improve the process.”
