Osun PDP chieftain petitions IGP over threat on party supporters

A chieftain of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, Omooba Dotun Babayemi, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over the alleged threats by the state chairman of the party, Mr Sunday Bisi, to unleash terror on him and his supporters spread across the all local governments in the state.

Babayemi in a statement issued from his media office on Monday, also called on the security agencies in the state, to stay alert of the plans from the group led by state PDP chairman, Mr Sunday Bisi, to unleash terror on him and his supporters across the state.

The PDP chieftain further explained that he had already forwarded a petition to this effect to the IGP and other security agencies in Abuja for their interventions to avert the state from being plunged into turmoil.

He further urged the state Police Command and the Directorate of State Security Services to invite the state party chairman for questioning.

The former PDP governorship candidate in the state, who was reacting to an alleged threat by Bisi to hound his supporters out of the state, decried the unguarded statement of the party chairman.

The PDP chairman in a viral video on Sunday, at Awo, Egbedore Local Government area of the state, threatened to make life unbearable for the supporters of Babayemi across all the local government areas of the state.

However, Babayemi urged the security agencies to take necessary action against the state party Chairman for inciting his supporters to unsettle the peace being enjoyed in the state.

He further warned the chairman not to jeopardise the peace currently being enjoyed by the people of the state, through his recklessness, maintaining that he would continue to ensure that the peaceful waters of the state were not unsettled through any undue provocation.

He also implored the people of the state, especially his supporters across the state, not to allow themselves to be provoked into taking laws into their hands.

“Let’s continue to maintain peace because Osun State is our common heritage. We must not allow anything or anybody to provoke us into taking irrational actions capable of dragging its wheel of progress backwards”. Babayemi appealed.
