The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has called on Nigerians, to work together for a peaceful coexistence in the country.
Obi who made the call via his X handle on Thursday, September 21, 2023, while marking International Peace Day, reminded us that there is high mutual distrust and disharmony among Nigerians.
According to him, the country has been polarised and sharply divided along religious and ethnic lines.
However, the former Anambra State Governor noted that a day like this provides the opportunity to have a sober reflection and work together for peaceful co-existence.
“As we mark the International Day of Peace today, we need to remind ourselves of the need to work together for our national peace and development. Our country has over recent years, been badly polarised and sharply divided along religious and ethnic lines.
“There is high mutual distrust and disharmony among Nigerians, resulting in civil unrest, all forms of agitations, discrimination and violence.
“A day like this provides us the opportunity to soberly reflect and work together for the peaceful coexistence of our peoples by strengthening the ideals of peace and fostering the tradition of non-violent resolution of conflicts.
“We must imbibe the culture of mutual respect for one another and deep respect for the rule of law to ensure lasting peace in our nation.
“No nation experiences meaningful development amidst conflicts, violent agitations and high insecurity, as currently obtains in Nigeria. It is my honest commitment to build a peaceful Nigeria where every Nigerian will be an equal stakeholder in the nation, free to live and thrive peacefully in any part of the nation.
“That is the New Nigeria we all desire because it is possible. -PO,” he tweeted.
