The Labour Party Director of security, Col. Leo Abara (RTD), has said that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, understands the different layers of banditry and terrorism ravaging the country and will confront them immediately he resumes office, if elected.

Abara said this during an interview on Channels TV on Wednesday morning.

He stated that Obi’s confidence in pronouncing a security covenant with the people throughout his campaign is because of his vast understanding of the insurgency affecting the country and also knows how to tackle them.

He said, “If I look at his roadmap, I discover that his first bus stop is restoration and order and he wants to do that as quickly as possible and what gives the confidence is that he has understood the various components of insecurity that is confronting the nation.

“You see, initially, under the old security architecture, banditry, terrorism is looked at as one big humongous monster but as a professional when you look at it you discover that it has layers and why we have wasted a lot of time is that we have been fighting the foot soldiers alone but when Obi comes in, he understands the different layers of what is confronting us, he will confront them as quickly as possible.

“And not only the foot soldiers… because we have wasted time, the foot soldiers can be recruited as they are depleting but if you confront the other four parts of what is going on I think it will go off.

“So, the confidence is there, terrorism and insurgency will be tackled because he understands them and that gives him the confidence to have the security covenant with the people.

“By the way, he is the only presidential candidate that has had a security covenant with the people. When he travelled round the 36 states and the FCT. Each time he held the microphone to address the people, he has the confidence to pronounce the security covenant with the people.”
