According to the Hon Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola, the grant for the Estate which is located on 18.5 hectares of land, was granted in 2018.

The construction of the newly built estate, which is consists of 748-housing units, was carried out by the Federal Housing Authority.

However, in his speech during the commissioning of the housing units, President Buhari stated that the Estate is part of the federal governments’ efforts to curb poverty and provide shelter for the populace.

According to the president, the project which contributed to several jobs during construction is part of his commitment to make lives better for the citizens of this country.

“Housing supply is one of the indices of the Multidimensional Poverty Index that challenges our people and the completion of the project will provide solutions for the beneficiaries.

“The new homeowners who benefit from this estate will have taken a step up on the ladder of prosperity from poverty,” he said.

Assuring the citizens of this country, the commitment of his administration to do more, in providing affordable homes for the comfort of the masses, President Buhari revealed that his government would not relent to complete housing projects before the expiration of his tenure.

“One of the measures we have consciously deployed to attack poverty, create prosperity and developed our economy is our aggressive provision of infrastructures nationwide. Our promise of change is being fulfilled to the homeowners.”

In his congratulatory speech to the new homeowners in the estate, the president encouraged them to live in harmony and collaborate with the FHA to bring lasting development to the area.

However, the Minister of Works and Housing, Fashola, who said the grant for the project was approved in 2018, revealed that over 13,000 workforces, benefited from the project directly or indirectly from about 75 contractors, who handled different aspects of the project.

According to him, beneficiaries of the estate include those who paid through mortgage, one-off payment and rent-to-own.

“The completion of the project indicates our commitment not to leave abandoned projects.

“Its construction gave employment to Nigerians including artisans and food vendors who frequent the area, to make money for themselves and their families,” he said.

The Managing Director of FHA, Senior. Ashiru Ashafa, who also spoke during the inauguration of the housing units, revealed that the project was funded through an N7.5bn grant from the government and N2bn from the internally generated revenue, of the authority.

However, he revealed that the estate has 1,2 and 3 bedrooms blocks of flat, and also, a 3-bedroom terrace.

According to him, the authority would soon commission its 336-housing unit in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory.
