An environment expert, Nnimmo Bassey, has urged President Bola Tinubu to rename the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to the Ministry of Marine Resources.

The expert opined that it is tautological as the Blue Economy is practicable only in marine or aquatic ecosystems, according to the Daily Post.

This was made known by Bassey, the Executive Director of the Health of Mother Earth Foundation, in a statement by his Media and Communications Lead, Kome Odhomer.

He urged the government to rename the ministry to suit its purpose.

According to him, “the title Marine and Blue Economy is tautological, as the Blue Economy is practicable only in marine or aquatic ecosystems. The government may wish to rename the unit as the Ministry of Marine Resources.”

He also explained that there is a lot to be worried about with the creation of the additional ministries.

“However, there are many signs to show that we need to be worried about the President’s new lineup of ministries.

“Three of the announced ministries—the Ministry of Gas Resources, the Ministry of Petroleum, and the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy—raise special concerns at this time in our history,” he added.
