Saraki mourns as Dokpesi dies at 71

Former Senate President at the 8th Assembly, Bukola Saraki has mourned the passing of the founder of the first privately owned media station in Nigeria, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi.

Punch Metro had earlier reported that the founder of Daar Communications Plc, Dr Dokpesi died on Monday, May 29, 2023.

 

According to a statement signed by the deceased son, Raymond Dokpesi (Jnr), the pioneer of indigenous media and a business tycoon breathed his last this morning, following a brief illness.

 

Reacting to the news of his death through his Twitter handle on Monday, Saraki who described him as a celebrated icon in the nation’s media landscape, said the news of his death was received with a profound sense of loss and deep sorrow.

 

Former Kwara Governor, who extended his condolences to the deceased family, said Dr Dokpesi’s contributions to Nigeria’s media industry are a memory that can never be forgotten.

 

However, he prayed that the lord should grant his family, the fortitude to bear the loss.

 

“It is with a profound sense of loss and deep sorrow that I learned of the passing of High Chief Raymond Aleogho Anthony Dokpesi, a celebrated icon in our nation’s media landscape.

 

“Chief Raymond Dokpesi was not just a friend and a brother, but a visionary, whose contributions to Nigeria’s media industry have left an indelible mark. His audacity in building one of Nigeria’s first private broadcasting houses, DAAR Communications, revolutionized the media space and created a platform for vibrant and independent journalism in our country.

 

“My family and I extend our deepest condolences to Raymond Dokpesi Jr., the entire Dokpesi family, and all of his friends and associates. We pray that the Almighty provides them comfort during this difficult time,” he wrote.
