Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the looting which was done on Sunday at a warehouse in Adamawa, containing palliatives meant for residents of the state.
According to Sani, who shared his thoughts on the situation via his Twitter handle, described the incidence as a sign of the level of desperation, hunger and poverty in the land.
He opined that hardships and suffering be alleviated and checkmated, otherwise, it would spread to the other parts of the country.
He tweeted, “The Storming of the Palliative Warehouse in Adamawa by the masses is a sign of the level of desperation, hunger and poverty in the land. The earlier the hardships and suffering is alleviated and checkmated the better, before it spreads to the other parts of the country.”
Earlier, PUNCH Metro had reported that the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Finitiri, had declared a curfew following the looting of a warehouse belonging to the National Emergency Management Agency.
Among the items looted were the ones that the government ordered to be distributed to cushion the effect of subsidy removal.
The hoodlums were seen carrying food items including gallons of vegetable oil and bags of rice.
Most of the hoodlums were youths seen shouting “enough of the hunger” packing bags of rice, gallons of palm oil, spaghetti, pump machines, and other valuable items.
The police intervened and dispensed tear gas to disperse the looters.
However, the intervention was not enough to deter the hoodlums from fleeing with the stolen items.
Normalcy has since returned to the affected areas as military personnel have taken charge of the warehouses.
