A human rights lawyer and the former scribe of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Malachy Ugwumadu, has called on the Federal Government to urgently address the complaints of the Supreme Court Justices.

PREMIUM POLITICS had reported that 14 Supreme Court justices wrote a letter to the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Muhammad Tanko, protesting their deplorable working and living conditions.

Ugwumadu on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Wednesday stated that given the ethics of the profession, it is unusual for them to have come out in this manner to express their grievances.

He said, “The Supreme Court justices are individuals who have attained the pinnacle of their careers and for them to have come out in this manner raises serious concerns which must be urgently addressed.”

“The complaints of the Supreme Court justices should have been handled by other structures within the ministry other than the office of the CJN.”

He also called on the Federal Government to urgently address the complaints of the Supreme Court justices.

“Government must act swiftly to prevent a looming chaos in the Judiciary because they are an integral institution which must be adequately taken care of and protected,” he added.
