There have been jubilations among the residents of Kano state, following the pronouncement of the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nasir Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 governorship election in the state, by the Election Tribunal sitting in the capital city of the state.
The Election Tribunal had on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, pronounced Gawuna as the winner of the election, following his suit, challenging the victory of Abba Kabir Yussuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party, who was earlier declared as the winner of the election, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, a viral video clip extracted online, which shows the source as Premium Times, shows how the residents of the state went into the streets, jubilating over the court judgement.
Gawuna had earlier congratulated Yusuf after the declaration by the INEC, that he won the election, but the APC proceeded to court, to challenge the results, alleging that there were irregularities in the election that produced Yusuf as the governor.
However, Premium Politics earlier reported that the three-man panel of justices, led by Justice Ibrahim Na’abba, gave judgment on Wednesday, after upholding the petition submitted by the APC and its candidate.
While ruling on the petition filed by the APC and Gawuna, the tribunal deducted 165, 663 votes from Yusuf’s votes, as invalid, following the discovery that ballot papers were not stamped or signed.
However, following the deduction of the said votes from his total counted vote, it left the votes of the NNPP candidate at, 853, 939 votes, while that of the APC candidate remains at 901, 227 votes, which prompted his declaration by the court, as the winner of the election.
Following the pronouncement by the court, the residents of the state however trooped out en masse, to celebrate the victory of the APC and its candidate.
