The immediate past chairman of the Labour Party, Lagos State Chapter, Kayode Salako, has revealed why he resigned as the party’s chairman in the State.

According to Channels, he stated that he resigned as the party’s chairman in the state to contest the seat of the Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1 in the House of Representatives.

“We held our legal stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos yesterday (Tuesday). I willingly handed over the running of the affairs of the party to Mrs Dayo Ekong because I wanted to contest an election.

“I am the candidate of the party for the House of Representatives seat in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 1. The election is about 40 days’ time and I need to concentrate to face the challenges,” Salako said.

It would be recalled Salako tendered his letter of resignation on Tuesday.

Following his resignation, the Party has named Dayo Ekong, as the new chairperson of the party’s Lagos State chapter.

He was accused of supporting the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, in the 2023 presidential election.

While handing over at the party’s secretariat on Tuesday, he said, “I can’t be a mole in a political party i am contesting. I am so grateful that Labour Party made me not APC (All Progressives Congress) for the many many years I was with them.

“When I wanted to go, Labour Party said I can’t go and they elevated me. I am a sincere human being. I don’t deceive and I don’t cheat.

“It is where I am going that I am going. I came to the party to look for how it can be better for me.”
