The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party in Ekiti, Segun Oni, has said he won’t congratulate the winner of the election until he and his party agreed on the outcome of the poll.

Featuring on the Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oni expressed doubt about the victory of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Biodun Oyebanji, at the poll, adding that democracy must be fully played out.

Oni said, “I was surprised by the outcome because we had a very great expectation and it was not for nothing, we went round campaigning. We know what the people feel about us. I believe that there must be more to the result.

He continued, “Rigged could even be an understatement, but we are not going say anything yet until we collect our evidence and we bring them to the public lab. But rigged could be an understatement.”

“There was some vote-buying everywhere, and we believe that is not good enough, and there was also the problem of thuggery. In some places, thugs went to polling stations, shot into the air, and asked everybody to lie down, it happened in Ilawe and took away the ballot boxes, it happened in two polling units in Ilawe.”

“My party has said we would go to court, but I will say let us check the evidence base first, you see I am not under pressure to anything, what we are doing is for democracy but if democracy will thrive, you and I must have confidence that election does not turn to half fiction and half facts,” he said.

Oni said if all is said and he realizes that the elections were free, fair and credible, he would congratulate the winner.

“If he won fair and square, I will congratulate him,” he said.
