Former Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Dele Momodu, has warned that Governor Nyesom Wike risks losing Rivers State if he does not support the party’s standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, in the 2203 presidential election.
Momodu made this known while on Channels TV programme, Sunrise Daily, on Monday while giving his opinion on how the party can resolve its internal crisis.
Wike had been left aggrieved after Atiku picked Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate over him(Wike). because he can’t work with the former.
However, the Chief Executive Officer of Ovation Magazine said Atiku had before the primary election approached Wike to be his running mate which he declined, as he was also planning on contesting for the PDP presidential ticket.
Wike, according to the Momodu contested the presidential ticket of the PDP because he believes power should come to the South, which according to the PDP zoning rotation constitution was right.
Following Wike’s defeat at the polls, and Atiku’s rejection of his recommendation to be his running mate threw the party into a crisis.
Reacting to the development, Momodu said, “What he (Wike) wants to do is to force a deal with the party, that’s my reading of the situation, he is a very smart politician, I’m sure eventually, the party will reach a deal with him.
“If I were the candidate, I will tell Governor Wike, if you support me, I will do for you what President Muhammadu Buhari did for Fashola. Fashola had three portfolios at a time in Nigeria… for me, Fashola was even almost more important that the office of the Vice President.”
“He (Wike) may lose his governorship candidate because you can’t come to me in the presidential election and say don’t vote for Atiku and then the following week, you come back to me and say vote for my candidate in PDP, that will be a very dangerous game to play.”
