Yahaya Bello’s anointed candidate wins Kogi APC gov primary

The anointed candidate of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress primary election, and elected as the governorship candidate of the party in Kogi state.

The state secretary of the APC primary election committee, Patrick Obahiagbon, announced on Friday that Ododo polled 78, 704 votes to win over other six contestants, in the party’s primary election, in the state, yesterday.

However, Salami Momodu scored 1506 votes, Abubakar Yahaya-Ashemogu secured 1,159 and Shaaibu Abubakar-Audu polled 763 votes.

Also, Stephen Ocheni polled 552 votes, Sanusi Ohiare had 424, and Smart Adeyemi polled a total score of 311 votes in the election.

Ododo, who was the former local government auditor-general in Kogi state, was declared as goGovernorahaya Bello’s candidate, during a stakeholders meeting, organized by the governor, on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the deputy governor of the state, Edward Onoja, and some other aspirants had withdrawn from the race, after Bello reportedly endorsed Ododo.

The state chapter of the APC had adopted the direct primary election method, to pick its candidate for the coming governorship election, scheduled to host in the state, on November 11, 2023.

The direct primary method, allows party members to vote for their preferred candidates at the ward level, and this method has been adopted by different political parties, across the country.

However, the APC’s governorship candidate will be contesting alongside some other candidates from other political parties in the state, on November 11, 2023.
